چکیده

The dependence relation between the macroscopic effective property and the microstructure of interpenetrating multiphase composites is investigated in this paper. The effective elastic moduli of such composites cannot be calculated from conventional micromechanics methods based on Eshelby s tensor because an interpenetrating phase cannot be extracted as dispersed inclusions. Employing the concept of connectivity, a micromechanical cell model is presented for estimating the effective elastic moduli of composites reinforced with either dispersed inclusions or interpenetrating networks. The model includes the main features of stress transfer of interpenetrating microstructures. The Mori– Tanaka method and the iso-stress and iso-strain assumptions are adopted in an appropriate manner of combination, rendering the calculation of effective moduli quite easy and accurate. 2003 Elsevier B.V. The Effect of Evolving Damage on the Finite Strain Response of Inelastic and Viscoelastic Composites

A finite strain micromechanical model is generalized in order to incorporate the effect of evolving damage in the metallic and polymeric phases of unidirectional composites. As a result, it is possible to predict the response of composites with ductile and brittle phases undergoing large coupled inelastic-damage and viscoelastic-damage deformations, respectively. For inelastic composites, both ...

Thermo-mechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites reinforced with randomly distributed silica nanoparticles- Micromechanical analysis

A three-dimensional micromechanics-based analytical model is developed to study thermo-mechanical properties of polymer composites reinforced with randomly distributed silica nanoparticles. Two important factors in nanocomposites modeling using micromechanical models are nanoparticle arrangement in matrix and interphase effects. In order to study these cases, representative volume element (RVE)...

Micromechanical Modeling and Design Optimization of 2-D Triaxial Braided Composites

A micromechanical model for 2-D triaxial braided composites is presented. The tow arrangement in the representative unit cell is modeled by solving the packing problem using analytical optimization, avoiding the need to measure the geometric properties experimentally. These results are used in the development of a closed-form micromechanical model predicting the full 3-D stiffness matrix of the...
